Wohlhaupter Corporation

The corporation was formed in 2002 by a group of American tooling professionals and Wohlhaupter GmbH. Its primary purpose is to provide North American metalworking industries with a wide range of precise boring tools and systems capable of increasing productivity and profitability.

In 2002 the high precision and cost effectiveness of our digital readout boring tools were introduced to the North American metalworking industry. These tools include boring capabilites from 0.016 inches to 128.14 inches as standard items.

During this same time period we have also expanded the number of tools and components manufactured from lightweight 7075 T6 aluminum alloy designed to reduce stress on machine tool spindles by reducing the overall weight of each Alu Line tool.

  • Allied Acquires Wohlhaupter

On September 9th, 2016 Allied Machine & Engineering Corporation acquired a majority of the shares of Wohlhaupter GmbH of Frickenhausen, Germany, Wohlhaupter USA, and Wohlhaupter India.

  • Tool configurator Tool-Architect

The Tool-Architect allows a virtual configuration of the MultiBore tools, as well as a representation of a 3D model.

  • Precision boring tool PrimeBore

PrimeBore is a cost-effective addition to the Wohlhaupter family of boring tools for the boring range Ø 6 – 128 mm.

  • Solid Carbide Drill and HSS Tap Drills & Forming Taps

Wohlahupter expanded is range of holemaking capabilities by including solid carbide drills and HSS tap drills & forming taps. They are committed to provide the latest geometries and coatings for maximum performance.

  • MiniDigi introduced

Another world’s first: the smallest digital boring heads which are capable of boring precision holes as small as .015”.

  • Smaller “Balance” Digital Tools

Wohlhaupter introduced the world’s smallest self-balancing precision boring tool. The range for the “Balance” tool family starts at 1.968” and goes up 8.071”. They all feature digital setting displays.

  • Digital Finishing up to 128.15”

With this expanded capability, Wohlhaupter became the only boring tool manufacturer able to offer a continuous range of digital traverse measurement boring from .118” to 128.15”.

  • Sintered Form 20 Inserts

This was another addition to the extensive range of inserts provided by Wohlhaupter. They were added as indication of the continuing commitment to provide inserts to meet the changing needs of our customers.

  • “Alu-Line” Further Expanded

“Alu-Line” is expanded to include larger diameter internal bores from 19.96” to an impressive 128.15”. This expansion was designed to fit seamlessly into the previous Alu-Line range of 7.87” to 19.96”.

  • “Vario-Line” Rough Boring Tools

“Vario-Line” tools offer a single platform with a huge variety of possible options. They are easy to set and able to be adapted to accommodate individual requirements.

  • Addition of Koyemann Tools

Wohlhaupter purchased the rights to the Koyemann brand. Their tools feature combination-cut boring which is a double-edged cutting process for rough and finish operations in a single pass.

  • “Combi-Line” Expanded

Height displaced rough and finish boring starting at .965” was expanded to 19.96” by incorporating lighter weight aluminum for tool bodies and slides. The height displacement of the cutting inserts in Combi-Line tools essentially provide two cutting passes in one.

  • “Balance” Tool Series Expanded

Their boring range was increased to 8.071” by incorporating lighter weight aluminum tool bodies. The first “Balance” tools were introduced in 1993. They were unique in that they featured internal, self-balancing mechanisms which allowed finish tools to run at state-of-the-art cutting speeds.

  • Another DigiBore Award

This is an award made to medium-sized companies by The Volksbank and Raiffeisen bank (German) that recognizes technical innovations which are financially sustainable. The DigiBore head with it’s synergistic effects was a perfect example of that type of innovation.

  • Wohlhaupter’s 75th Anniversary

Wohlhaupter GmbH continues to be a family operated business. Three factors contribute to it’s success. They are; business/manufacturing expertise, continuous technological innovation, and the commitment of dedicated professional individuals.

  • First Wohlhaupter IMTS booth

All serious players in the North American Machine & Tools marketplace put their products and services on display in Chicago every two years at IMTS. 2004 was the first time that IMTS attendees were fully exposed to the full range of Wohlhaupter’s precision boring tools and systems.

  • DigiBore Innovation Award

The Digibore head was recognized as an example of a product that should motivate other companies in the Esslingen District (Germany) to develop products and services which, in turn, would promote the region’s economy.

  • First digital Boring Head

“DigiBore”, with it’s integrated opto-electronic traverse measurement and digital display, is introduced to the world marketplace. Since then, it has proven it’s reliability and precision under a wide range of manufacturing conditions and requirements.

  • Foundation as a Sales Subsidiary of Wohlhaupter GmbH

Talks between members of Wohlhaupter GmbH’s Executive Management and a group of U.S. Machine Tool industry investors resulted in the formation of Wohlhaupter Corporation. At that time, Karl Hochuli of Chillicothe, Ohio was elected to be President and CEO of the Corporation and, as a Wohlhaupter regional dealer, Mackintosh Tool Company of Centerville, Ohio was selected to house the U.S. operations.
