After restructuring: Wohlhaupter is starting the new year optimistically
The precision tool manufacturer Wohlhaupter achieved a turnover of around 20 million euro in 2014, thus lying at the stable level of the previous year. After staff had to be cut as part of restructuring in the last quarter, signs are looking positive for the year 2015. The company is consolidating its position in the market with the new product series "PrimeBore" and the software "Tool Architect." Strategic sales cooperations are laying the foundation for future growth.
"The year 2014 was a difficult year for us, because we had to cut staff via a transfer company," says Technical General Manager Frank-M. Wohlhaupter. "We still had to battle with the aftermath of the economic crisis in the year 2009, in which we failed to adjust to the altered market conditions promptly. But now we are looking forward optimistically." The specialist for digital metal-cutting tools sees the reason for this especially in the development of new products and solutions; in tapping into new customer segments, as well as intensive sales cooperations. The first successes were achieved at the beginning of the year 2015. For example, some large contracts from strategic partners in the area of customer specific solutions were signed in January. A further major project was supplied on schedule to eastern Asia, at the end of January.
As a supplement to the world's largest range of precision tools for drilling machining, Wohlhaupter is now offering an analog solution for beginners. "The starter set 'PrimeBore' for the boring range from 6mm to 128mm is adjustable via vernier for precision machining of bores with a resolution of 2µm and fully meets the high quality demands on a Wohlhaupter tool," explains Frank-M. Wohlhaupter. Simple handling, axial adjustment of the tool holders and balancing by means of balancing screws on the outer diameter distinguish the tool just as much as its unbeatable price.
With the newly developed and Internet-based software "Tool Architect," the appropriate Wohlhaupter tools can be configured online, individually. The software creates complete tool systems from single components of the comprehensive modular "MultiBore" range, in which the user is almost set no boundaries. A detailed 3D visual display system guarantees the identification of the problem oriented and optimum solution for each requirement.
Wohlhaupter works together closely in distribution with the tool wholesaler Hahn + Kolb from Ludwigsburg. "With this cooperation we are putting distribution activities on a broader, extensive basis and are especially guaranteeing the intense support for our medium-sized customers," Commercial General Manager Rolf Wohlhaupter-Hermann elucidates. The managing directors have also newly restructured their company and reduced costs. Employee representative Gunter Sanwald: "Cutting staff is always unpleasant, but in order to retain the most jobs possible, Wohlhaupter could not help but reduce the number of employees. The employee organization was involved in the process of restructuring early on and completely stands behind the changes in the company."
Frank-M. Wohlhaupter is optimistic about 2015: "We can now completely concentrate on our customers and the competition. With numerous appearances at international trade fairs, workshops and hotel symposiums, we want to enthrall existing and potential users with real innovations."
Wohlhaupter Corp. is growing further
The good economic situation in the USA is also reflected in the order books of Wohlhaupter Corp. in Dayton, Ohio. An additional growth of 28% in the year 2014 granted the Leader in Digital Boring Tools a successful business year. The signs are pointing toward further growth as well. In order to implement this sustainably and with focus, the line of approach for the most important industries was determined in two strategy workshops in Berlin, at the beginning of the year. With two large follow-up orders from key accounts, the foundations for a successful 2015 in the USA could already be laid in February.
